Elon Musk’s massive AI data center gets unlocked — xAI gets approved for 150MW of power, enabling all 100,000 GPUs to run concurrently

Elon Musk’s ‘Gigafactory of Compute,’ the xAI Colossus, has received approval from the Tennessee Valley Authority to increase its power supply from 8MW to 150MW

This significant increase in power demand has triggered concerns from local stakeholders about the impact on power supply reliability and prices in the Tennessee Valley region. The facility is also planning to double its computing capacity, further increasing its energy requirements. The xAI Colossus was set up in just 19 days, much faster than the usual four years. Experts estimate that the facility needs 155MW to run at full capacity, so the 150MW approval is a conservative estimate.
